The Gacaca Archive
The Gacaca Archive comprises records created by thousands of local and regional courts in Rwanda from 2002 to 2012, covering almost 2 million trials related to genocide and other crimes between 1990 and 1994. It contains around 6 million documents, making it one of the world's largest transitional justice repositories. The entire archive, with over 40 million high- quality scans, is now digitized, but access is restricted due to sensitive content. This website provides information on the archive's background, purpose, structure, court competences, and document types.
Brief introduction of what the research guide is about
This website is meant to help researchers , by providing information about the creation of the archives, their structure, the cour competences and procuderes, as well as by explaining the various document types that were produced by the courts. Furthermore, it may serve as a source for education.
